Further to my email of 29th June 2017 confirming receipt of the Inspector’s Report I am pleased to inform you that the Placemaking Plan was formally adopted by Full Council on 13th July 2017.
The Placemaking Plan complements the strategic framework in the adopted Core Strategy by setting out detailed development and design principles for identified and allocated development sites, as well as a range of policies for managing development and protecting valued assets across Bath and North East Somerset.
Overleaf the Council’s Adoption Statement sets out where and when the adopted Placemaking Plan can be viewed. In addition to the deposit locations, the Placemaking Plan can also be viewed at all the public libraries in the District including the mobile library and on the Council’s website at www.bathnes.gov.uk/placemakingplan.
The Adoption Statement also explains that there is a six week period from the date of adoption during which any person aggrieved by the Placemaking Plan can make an application to the High Court on the grounds that the document is not within the appropriate powers, or that a procedural requirement has not been complied with.

As you may already be aware the Council is in the initial stages of reviewing the Core Strategy which will then formally incorporate the Placemaking Plan to form a single Local Plan. This review is being undertaken alongside the emerging Joint Spatial Plan which covers the four West of England Unitary Authority areas. The Joint Spatial Plan will provide the strategic planning context for the new Bath & North East Somerset Local Plan to 2036.
The Council will continue to work with local communities and stakeholders during the preparation of the new Local Plan. As part of its engagement strategy the Council will also be consulting with local residents, developers and other relevant stakeholders on options towards the end of 2017. We will notify you separately about this.
