Unitary Authority

 

Chew Stoke is included in the unitary authority of Bath & North East Somerset (B&NES). The address of the Council’s website is www.bathnes.gov.uk

 

As unitary authority, B&NES is responsible for a wide range of public services including schools, social services, highways, refuse and recycling, planning, environmental health, housing and leisure services. It has total annual revenue and capital spending of approximately £350 million. There are 65 members of the Council representing wards in Bath, Keynsham, Norton Radstock and the many rural villages in the area. Chew Stoke is in the Chew Valley North ward which also includes Chew Magna and Norton Malreward.

 

Malcolm HanneyMalcolm Hanney has been the ward Councillor for Chew Valley North since 1995. He is also the Deputy Leader of the Council and the Cabinet Member for Resources (Finance, HR, IT and Property). In addition to his Council responsibilities, Malcolm is also Chairman of NHS Bath & North East Somerset (which is responsible for the commissioning of all NHS services in the area) and a Director of The Theatre Royal Bath, the NHS Confederation and Future Bath Plus. Malcolm has been a Governor of Chew Stoke Primary School since 1997 and was Chair of Governors from 1999 to 2006. He was also Vice Chair of Governors of Chew Valley School from 1997-2001 and Director / Treasurer of The Care Network from 1996 to 2001. Prior to becoming a Councillor, Malcolm worked in international finance in London, Hong Kong and Chicago. He has been married to Jane for over 30 years and they have two children - Sarah (19) and Steven (16) - and three dogs.
