Parish of Chew Stoke

Winners of Poster Competition

The Parish Council has been very concerned lately by the amount of dog mess that is being left in the village - the worst area being Rectory Field. As the problem in Rectory Field affects children in particular, the Parish Council came up with the idea of having signs designed by the children of Chew Stoke Church School in the hope that this will bring home the message about not leaving dog mess in our village. The idea was welcomed by the school and, towards the end of 2009, some of the classes drew posters for us.

The winning entry was designed and drawn by Emily Manville (see picture) and a joint second prize was awarded to Eleanor Michallat-Cox and George Adams (see picture - the sign combines their designs). The winners were announced and the new signs displayed at the school on 1 March.

The prizes of book tokens were awarded by Gillie Slater - Chair of the Parish Council. The signs will now be put up at both entrances to Rectory Field and at other locations in the village. Many thanks to the school for assisting so enthusiastically and also to the pupils for their wonderful efforts.

The Parish Council is hopeful that these new signs, coupled with the extra dog mess bin and the bags that are available at the entrances to Rectory Field, will ensure that the field is kept free of dog mess so that it can be enjoyed by all parishioners and also visitors to Chew Stoke.
